This is a much better 4K release than the 2009 remake, which I consider unwatchable (the film is great but that 4K was awful). For Jason Goes to Hell, the detail is wonderful, the optical effects are especially improved and really impressed me, but it looks too dark. Scenes in the dark were almost pitch black at times and it's even dark when they're on Creighton Duke's sunny porch or in a diner in the middle of the day. It doesn't look bad really, I just think they might have over done it. I've never seen a 35mm print so maybe it's just always been too bright on home video and this is the way it's supposed to look? The main improvement on this 4K is the lack of digital compression noise. While it may be too dark, it's at least crystal lake clear. Perhaps a little too much noise reduction was done but it doesn't look unnatural or smeared.
